S22 Digital Collaborates in Organising the CanSat 2026 National Final in Extremadura

Last Updated on 18 de July de 2026 by S22 Digital

On 12 and 13 May, the Talavera la Real Air Base (Ala 23) hosted the CanSat 2026 National Final, one of the most important educational competitions in the STEM and aerospace fields. For the first time, Extremadura hosted this national final, bringing together 16 teams from all over Spain made up of students in compulsory secondary education (ESO), upper secondary (Bachillerato) and vocational training.

At S22 Digital, we had the opportunity to take part in organising this event, contributing to a gathering that connects education, technology, innovation and scientific vocation in a unique professional environment.

A Competition That Brings Space into the Classroom

CanSat is an educational initiative promoted by the European Space Agency through ESERO Spain, in which the participating teams design, build and launch a minisatellite the size of a soft drink can. The challenge is not only to create the device, but also to integrate sensors, communication systems, data analysis and a complete scientific mission.

During the main day, the teams launched their CanSats using rockets that reached between 650 and 800 metres in altitude. During the flight, the minisatellites transmitted data in real time, allowing students to test their technical and scientific solutions in real conditions.

Young Talent, Innovation and Teamwork

The CanSat 2026 National Final brought together students, teachers, a technical jury and institutional representatives from different autonomous communities. Beyond the competition, the event highlighted the value of project-based learning: solving real problems, working as a team, defending technical decisions and applying knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

For S22 Digital, being part of this experience reinforces our commitment to educational innovation and to boosting young talent. We believe that initiatives like CanSat are essential to spark scientific and technological vocations, bring the aerospace sector closer to new generations and show that technology is also learned by experimenting.

Extremadura as a Benchmark in Aerospace Educational Innovation

Holding this national final in Talavera la Real marks a milestone for Extremadura. The region is establishing itself as a place capable of hosting high-impact educational projects linked to science, technology and institutional collaboration.

The NIMBUSAT team, from the Valencian Community, was selected as the best CanSat and will represent Spain in the international phase organised by the ESA. The teams FORAT ENGINEERING, MASANZ_V3, PRIMITIVE TECHNOLOGY, EZESAT and HIDROSAT were also recognised in different technical, scientific and outreach categories.

A Commitment to Education and Technology

At S22 Digital, we understand technology as a tool to create opportunities. That is why taking part in organising the CanSat 2026 National Final has been a particularly meaningful experience: a project that brings together institutions, educational centres, teachers and students around science and technology. CanSat 2026 has shown that young talent is ready to aim higher. And at S22 Digital, we will continue working to help that talent take off.
