Madrid, 6 February 2024. The NH Real Casino de Madrid became the epicentre of digital safety during Safer Internet Day 24, an event organised by the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) as part of Safer Internet Day #SID2024. With the notable presence of HM Queen Letizia of Spain, the event sought to promote the safe and positive use of technology, especially among the youngest. Located in the heart of Madrid, the NH Real Casino, a historic building more than a century old, provided a distinguished setting for the day’s important discussions and activities. Surrounded by the elegance of its architecture, attendees immersed themselves in an atmosphere of reflection and learning about the importance of online safety. From early in the morning, the buzz of participants began to fill the halls of the Real Casino. Cybersecurity experts, educators, parents and young people gathered to take part in talks, workshops and activities designed to encourage responsible use of the Internet.

One of the highlights of the event was the awards ceremony of the 2nd edition of the contest “What does 017 mean to you?”. This contest challenged students to reflect on the importance of the ‘Your Cybersecurity Help’ service and how it can help them in risky situations online. The winners were announced in an exciting ceremony, receiving recognition for their efforts in promoting digital safety among their peers.

In addition, for the first time, the 017 in-person support service was available in Madrid during the event. Attendees had the opportunity to schedule appointments to receive personalised advice on cybersecurity issues, thus strengthening INCIBE’s commitment to the community. But the day was not limited to activities within the NH Real Casino. SID 2024 also extended through interactive online workshops, designed to train students in developing digital skills for the safe and responsible use of the Internet. These initiatives reflect INCIBE’s commitment to reaching a diverse audience and providing accessible resources for everyone. The event ended with the promise of greater outreach. This initiative will allow even more people to access activities, games and hands-on experiences to strengthen their knowledge of cybersecurity.

In short, Safer Internet Day 24 in Madrid was a powerful reminder of the importance of promoting a safe and positive online environment for everyone. With the participation of HM Queen Letizia of Spain and a wide range of educational activities, the event left a lasting mark on the community, inspiring a positive change in the way we interact with technology in today’s digital world. At S22 Digital, it has been a pleasure to work to make these sessions unforgettable.
