Extremadura hosts the 1st Congress Against Sexual Violence. The Regional Minister for Equality and Cooperation for Development, Isabel Gil Rosiña, states that the underlying issue of a matter such as violence against women is being trivialised, and calls for gender-based violence and equality issues not to be used as a political instrument. At the same time, she has asked that equality policies not be trivialised or used in this country’s political disputes. She said so at the opening of the Congress on Sexual Violence, organised by the Institute for Women of Extremadura (IMEX). A congress being held until tomorrow in Mérida, with the presence of experts from different fields who will address sexual violence and the current regulatory changes. The Regional Minister stated that the trivialisation of these issues “represents a lack of consideration for all the women of Spain and for their human rights, which is precisely the aim pursued by public equality policies”.
