The 2025 edition of EMINENT, held in Madrid on 11 and 12 December, brought together institutional representatives, education innovation experts and European leaders to analyse the role of artificial intelligence in education systems. From the opening, the event demonstrated a framework of rigorous, collaborative dialogue aimed at promoting a responsible, ethical and effective use of technology in schools.
The opening day began with institutional addresses from European Schoolnet and Spain’s Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, accompanied by strategic messages from the European Commission. These addresses underlined the relevance of the debate on AI and education in the current European context, especially regarding digital rights, teaching competencies and innovation policies. Subsequently, the opening keynote by Olli-Pekka Heinonen introduced a structured reflection on emerging pedagogical challenges, paving the way for the first round tables focused on the impact of AI on students’ rights and on the development of sound educational policies. The afternoon session was completed with parallel working spaces, where different groups addressed everything from practical experiences to regulatory frameworks and lessons learned from projects such as AgileEDU and EmpowerED.
The second day maintained the analytical character of the event with a new keynote address, followed by round tables dedicated to applied research, the role of teachers and technological integration in real learning contexts. The participation of international experts made it possible to contrast perspectives and generate a shared diagnosis of the feasibility, opportunities and limits of AI in the school environment. The final conclusions, delivered by institutional representatives, reaffirmed the European commitment to a safe, inclusive technological transition geared towards educational quality.
The event culminated by establishing itself as a benchmark forum for strategic reflection on innovation in education, offering a professional space where institutions, researchers and public policymakers were able to move forward together in defining criteria and best practices for the use of artificial intelligence in schools.
