Commemoration of Salustiano del Campo

It has been a true pleasure to participate in the live stream of the event commemorating Salustiano del Campo. It is always enriching to learn more about such important figures in the sociology of our country. After studying Law, Salustiano trained as a sociologist at the University of Chicago, where he was an assistant professor. His return to Spain brought with him his doctoral thesis, “The Spanish Family in Transition,” which was awarded the Extraordinary Prize. He was a professor at the universities of Barcelona and Madrid, and was a fundamental figure in the creation of the first Faculty of Sociology in Spain, where he served as Dean between 1977 and 1980.

As one of the founding promoters of the Institute of Public Opinion (predecessor to the CIS), he served as CEO and Director, leaving an indelible mark on the development of sociology in Spain. He was elected to the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences and presided over the Institute of Spain, in addition to leading the creation of the UNESCO Dictionary of Social Sciences.

A life dedicated to the knowledge, research, and dissemination of sociology leaves an extraordinary legacy and an example to follow. Thank you for your immense contribution, Salustiano!
