The Fuerteventura Summer University (UVF) has successfully concluded its second edition, which took place from June 24th to 28th at the Island Youth Center. This year, the event focused on mental health, addressing a wide range of topics through lectures, workshops, and roundtables led by prominent national and international experts.

The opening event was attended by local authorities, including Lola García Martínez, President of the Fuerteventura Island Council; José Miguel Álamo Mendoza, Vice-Rector for Culture, Sports, and Social Engagement at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria campuses; and Adargoma Hernández Rodríguez, Councilor for Water, Education, and Youth of the Fuerteventura Island Council.
During the five days of UVF, attendees had the opportunity to learn about and reflect on various aspects of mental health. Among the featured speakers were María Esclapez, a Spanish psychologist and science communicator, who opened the conference with her presentation on healthy relationships and emotional wounds. Rocío García de Leániz, head of the Screen-Addicted Parents’ School, offered guidelines for digital well-being for families. Mario Cabrera, former President of the Fuerteventura Island Council, participated in the panel discussion on the ULPGC anniversary.
Rafa Guerrero, a clinical psychologist and expert in educational psychology, spoke about emotional intelligence in children and adolescents. Nayara Ortega, a clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist, spoke about protective factors for mental health. José Rodríguez Pellejero, a psychologist and professor, gave an insightful presentation on attachment. Érica Cerdeña, a journalist and content creator, discussed conscious communication as an agent of change.
Jana Fernández, a writer and sleep expert, highlighted the importance of sleep for mental health. David Pastor Vico, a communicator and professor, spoke about the ethics of trust and friendship. Alba Cardalda, a psychologist specializing in cognitive-behavioral therapy, offered strategies for setting healthy boundaries. Mara Jiménez, a musical theater expert and fatphobia activist, shared her experience with self-esteem and eating disorders.

María Jesús Campos, an educational psychologist, spoke about emotional well-being in the classroom. Silvia Olmedo, a psychologist and bestselling author, explored the challenges of promoting mental health on social media. El Chojin, a rapper and social activist, used his music to highlight the importance of respect and self-acceptance. Pablo André, an entrepreneur and consultant, offered an innovative perspective on personal and professional growth.

Irene Villa, a journalist and psychologist, inspired the audience with her story of overcoming adversity. Beatriz Cazurro, a psychotherapist, discussed the influence of childhood on emotional well-being. Teresa Perales, an Olympic gold medalist, shared her journey and the importance of resilience.



The Fuerteventura Summer University has proven to be a vital forum for promoting education and social well-being, providing the community with the tools and knowledge necessary to address mental health challenges. The collaboration between the Fuerteventura Island Council, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and various public and private entities has been key to the success of this edition.
