Highlights of the Conference on Innovation and Digitalisation: Training for the Future (Graphic, Paper and Photography Industries)

On 13 March, the Valkiria Hub in Barcelona was the setting for the conference “Innovation and digitalisation: training for the future. Graphic, paper and photography industries”, an event organised by CPS Photography Industry, CPS Graphic Arts, Paper and Cardboard Converting, Publishing and Related Industries, and CPS Pulp, Paper and Cardboard. The initiative brought together experts, union representatives and sector professionals to analyse the challenges and opportunities that digital transformation brings.

A networking-oriented start

From 10:00, attendees began to arrive and took part in the registration, where they received promotional material. This initial moment served to foster networking and the exchange of ideas before the official start. At 10:30, Purificación González, Deputy Director at Pressdigital Group, welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of continuous training in a sector that is evolving at great speed. After the screening of an institutional video by CPS Photography Industries, the first round table began, moderated by Pablo Pastor, Head of Sectoral Development and Support at CPS. This debate featured key figures from the sector such as Inés Chacón Paz (ASPAPEL), José Antonio Pompa Garayzábal (FEIGRAF), Estefanía Caro Fernández (FSC-CCOO) and Javier Benítez (UGT Fica). During the conversation, the role of the CPS in adapting the sector to new technological trends was explored.

Technology and digitalisation as drivers of change

The following session began with the screening of the corporate video of CPS Graphic Arts, Paper and Cardboard Converting, Publishing and Related Industries. Then, the topic “Technological evolution and digital challenges in the sector” was addressed, with contributions from Fernando Rocha, technician at the School of Work of the CCOO Confederation, and Silvia Pinto, consultant and lecturer at the UAM and the UAM Foundation. The speakers analysed how digitalisation is transforming production processes and redefining the most sought-after professional profiles. The audience’s interest was evident in the Q&A round, where the challenges of technological implementation and the need for specific training for the sector’s workers were discussed. Afterwards, between 13:15 and 15:00, lunch was held, an ideal space to continue exchanging ideas and establish professional contacts.

Training and innovation: pillars for the future

In the afternoon, the day continued with the screening of the institutional video of CPS Pulp, Paper and Cardboard, which gave way to the round table “Adapting training needs to the sector’s innovation, digitalisation and sustainability challenges”. Again moderated by Purificación González, this session featured the participation of Joan Creus Oliveras (Gremi de Industrias Gráficas de Catalunya), Manuel Ángel Fernández Balanza (FSC-CCOO), Nuria Domingo (ALIER – ASPAPEL) and Rubén García (UGT), who discussed the importance of training to address the sector’s changes.

The event concluded with an intervention by Ignacio Villoch, an expert in innovation, talent and sustainability, who took stock of the day. In his closing speech, he underlined the importance of collaboration between trade unions, companies and educational institutions to achieve an effective transition towards a more digitalised and sustainable industrial environment.
