S22 Digital Collaborates in the AEMPS Session on CHESSMEN and Medicine Supply Problems

On 10 June 2026, the Agencia Spanisha de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios (AEMPS) (Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products) held a session in Madrid dedicated to CHESSMEN, the European joint action focused on medicine supply problems. At S22 Digital, we collaborated in organising this event, a session aimed at sharing technical knowledge, work results and lessons learned around one of the most relevant challenges for today’s healthcare systems: ensuring the availability of medicines and anticipating the causes that can affect their supply.

CHESSMEN stands for Coordination and Harmonisation of the Existing Systems against Shortages of Medicines, European Network. It is a project co-financed and developed by the AEMPS within work package no. 5 (WP5), focused on analysing the root causes of supply problems identified in EU/EEA countries. The main conclusions of other technical packages, WP6, WP7 and WP8, in which the AEMPS collaborates, were also shared.

The event was held in person at the AEMPS headquarters and was streamed live via LinkedIn, YouTube and the session’s official website. The agenda included the institutional opening, an introduction to the scope and objectives of CHESSMEN, a specific session on the AEMPS’s role in WP5, a question-and-answer session and the presentation of the main results of work packages WP6, WP7 and WP8.

Participants included professionals from the AEMPS Department of Inspection and Control of Medicines, such as Manuel Ibarra, María Esplugues Argente, Laura Marrero Ortiz, Marta Casalengua Domínguez and Esther Cobo García, who addressed the project’s scope, the analysis of causes and the European lines of work on this matter from different perspectives.

For S22 Digital, being part of the organisation of this session means contributing to a specialised working space in which institutional coordination, technology, data and European collaboration are put at the service of a common goal: improving the capacity to respond to medicine supply problems.

Initiatives of this kind reflect the importance of connecting technical knowledge, public management and digital solutions to tackle complex challenges. In a context where the availability of medicines has a direct impact on healthcare professionals, patients and institutions, moving towards more coordinated, traceable and preventive systems is essential.
