{"id":18936,"date":"2025-10-13T06:50:37","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T06:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.s22digital.com\/jornada-iberoamericana-de-patrimonio-cultural-ante-emergencias\/"},"modified":"2026-07-17T07:37:50","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T07:37:50","slug":"jornada-iberoamericana-de-patrimonio-cultural-ante-emergencias","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.s22digital.com\/en\/jornada-iberoamericana-de-patrimonio-cultural-ante-emergencias\/","title":{"rendered":"Highlights of the Ibero-American Conference on Cultural Heritage in the Face of Emergencies (Valencia)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Within the framework of the <strong>21st Meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of the Ibermuseos Programme<\/strong>, the <strong>Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage and Fine Arts<\/strong>, through the <strong>Subdirectorate-General for State Museums<\/strong>, promoted a conference that became an essential meeting point for museum professionals, collection managers and cultural managers from across Ibero-America.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Ibero-American Conference on Cultural Heritage in the Face of Emergencies<\/strong> brought together in Valencia specialists from Spain, Portugal and Latin America with a common goal: <strong>to strengthen the heritage sector&#8217;s response capacity in emergency situations<\/strong> and to build shared strategies to protect common heritage against the effects of climate change and natural disasters.<\/p>\n<p>The debate did not arise in a vacuum. The <strong>DANA storm that struck the Valencian Community in October 2024<\/strong> was the trigger for deep reflection on the vulnerability of cultural heritage to extreme weather events.<br \/>The damage suffered by churches, archives, museum collections and intangible assets prompted one of the largest heritage-recovery operations in Spain&#8217;s recent history, coordinated between the <strong>Ministry of Culture<\/strong> and the <strong>Generalitat Valenciana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>That experience, together with those undergone in other Ibero-American countries facing hurricanes, volcanic eruptions or fires, served as a starting point for rethinking action protocols, prevention systems and international cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>The conference opened with the presentation of the <strong>National Plan for Risk and Emergency Management in Cultural Heritage<\/strong>, by <strong>Cristina Villar Fern\u00e1ndez<\/strong> and <strong>Arsenio S\u00e1nchez Hernamp\u00e9rez<\/strong>, of the Instituto del Patrimonio Cultural de Espa\u00f1a (IPCE). The panel also featured <strong>Pablo Mu\u00f1oz del Olmo<\/strong>, president of the Fundaci\u00f3n Fuego, together with representatives of three museums particularly affected by the DANA:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Alejandro Villar Torres<\/strong>, director of the <em>Museu de la Festa<\/em> in Algemes\u00ed.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Eva Sanz Gibert<\/strong>, head of the <em>Museu de la Rajoleria<\/em> in Paiporta.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Francesc Mart\u00ednez Sanchis<\/strong>, director of the <em>Museu del Palmito<\/em> in Aldaia.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They all agreed on the importance of <strong>training, inter-institutional coordination and preventive planning<\/strong> to mitigate future damage.<\/p>\n<h2>Ibero-American Perspective: Shared Experiences<\/h2>\n<p>The second part of the meeting gave a voice to representatives of museums and institutions from <strong>Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Colombia and Portugal<\/strong>, members of the Ibermuseos Programme, who shared their own risk-management strategies:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Michel Rocha Correia<\/strong> (IBRAM, Brazil) presented the comprehensive approach of the Brazilian Institute of Museums&#8217; emergency plan.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Alan Trampe<\/strong> (Chile) presented the risk-management model applied by the National Subdirectorate of Museums.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Sonia Virgen<\/strong> (Cuba) addressed the Cuban experience in <strong>hurricane risk management<\/strong>, with a long track record in preventive heritage protection.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>F\u00e1tima Roque<\/strong>, president of the Intergovernmental Council of the Ibermuseos Programme and coordinator of the Rede Portuguesa de Museus, highlighted the <strong>training and collaborative tools<\/strong> developed by Portugal.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Luis Carlos Manjarr\u00e9s<\/strong> (Colombia) detailed the work of the National Museum of Colombia in <strong>volcanic emergency management<\/strong>, a frequent risk in its territory.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Their contributions underlined a common message: <strong>Ibero-American cooperation is the key to strengthening prevention and response systems for cultural emergencies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The conference was brought to a close by <strong>M\u00f4nica Barcelos<\/strong> and <strong>Vanessa de Britto Maluf<\/strong>, of the Technical Unit of the Ibermuseos Programme, who presented a <strong>new diagnostic resource on threats to museums<\/strong> and announced the <strong>launch of the new edition of the Ibermuseos Fund for Museological Heritage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16117 size-large alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.s22digital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/IMG_8534-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.s22digital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/IMG_8534-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.s22digital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/IMG_8534-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.s22digital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/IMG_8534-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.s22digital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/IMG_8534-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.s22digital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/IMG_8534-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This instrument seeks to support projects geared towards heritage resilience, risk-management training and innovation in preventive conservation.<\/p>\n<p>With more than five hours of exchange, the <strong>Ibero-American Conference on Cultural Heritage in the Face of Emergencies<\/strong> made it clear that museums are living and vulnerable spaces, but also resilient ones.<br \/>Spain, as a founding member of the Ibermuseos Programme, reaffirmed its commitment to Ibero-American cultural cooperation and the protection of shared heritage, in a global context where natural disasters and climate change demand ever more coordinated responses.<\/p>\n<p>The event concluded with a unanimous message: <em>&#8220;Heritage is memory, identity and future; protecting it against emergencies is protecting ourselves.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Within the framework of the 21st Meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of the Ibermuseos Programme, the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage and Fine Arts, through the Subdirectorate-General for State Museums, promoted a conference that became an essential meeting point for museum professionals, collection managers and cultural managers from across Ibero-America.
